NYC is very strict in terms of education and physical requirements. A requirement of 60 college credits, an eye exam, aptitude test, physical before being accepted to the academy. The wait time for results are in months. In the end NYPD get paid pretty low compared to other states.
So far this is what I am expected to do for California:
Written exam, once that's graded and it's acceptable then I would move on to a physical exam: 1 mile run in 10 minutes, Agility with a 20 sec. completion time, dragging an unconscious body for a given length in a matter of seconds, then scaling a wall in 15 - 20 seconds tops. Then there would be an Oral exam. No details given. Pass all 3 then move on to interview then polygraph. Then comes the academy and 5 months of training....
Heh, I've had that happen before. Sign up for a job and months later get a response only to have forgotten what the heck I went in and applied for.

Here's hoping you get the job/ jobs (wouldn't hurt to have the mystery job for kicks) and then more toys for the bike.
