Easy! Good marketing. I used to work for Starbucks

Starbucks sells high priced coffee because it can. It's convinced consumers that it sells a high-class drink, that their employees are expertly trained in all things coffee, and its simply trendy and upscale to drink there.

Most people dont like coffee at regular coffee houses because, amazingly, most of THEIR drinks have an abundant amount of something most consumers dont like....coffee!

90% of the people at Starbucks drink very, very little coffee. Its mostly heated milk and sugary flavored goodness. Regular good old coffee? There are almost no sales there, and with a brewing turn-over of about 20-30 minutes, most of it is thrown in the trash. In the south, Starbucks sells a lot of cold drinks. Frapuccino anyone? The 'coffee' in there is a processed sugary powder, no beans for you! Many of the cold drinks do not have coffee at all.

Starbucks has only 'selected' coffee growing areas in mostly third world countries. They claim they best coffee comes from there, what they dont tell you is that it comes with cheap labor and low cost.

Starbucks isnt about selling coffee, its about brilliant marketing and business strategies. Thats what you are paying through the nose for.

95 honda civic ex coupe, 45mpg highway real world average from personal driving. 30mpg city, same real world. 1.6l vtec. 2006 civic ex coupe, listed as 35mpg city-40mpg highway. hybrids get their gas mileage in the city, the prius I belive is like 50-60 city, 40 highway or so. they dont use much gas even in stop and go traffic, thats why they can be better for some people who live just outside the city and go through it, and dont have public transportation available or dont use it. the average joe american in non city american wont need this cause you can drive a regular small japanese car well and get a ton of gas out of it. by the way my dad used to drive that car with 50mpg in the city, he'd push the clutch all the way in whenever he didnt need to be on the power. then again, my jeep will get 16mpg if I drive it nicely, 15 if I dont, so not ALL vehicles get better if you drive them nicely. worst gas milage ever in the civic, drove it to college (1hr away, interstate) and set the cruise control at 95 and never used the cruise control..... got 25mpg

You're not kidding  I'm one of the few that occasionally stops in at Starbucks for an actual cup of coffee and they always look at me with a questioning stare. I usually have to point the the little blackboard where they write the name of whatever type their brewing that day. Sheesh!

That's because at 95 mph, it's revving at about 4,500 to 5,000 rpm in fifth gear, at least that's how my civic ex is. It seems to get worse gas mileage on the highway because at 75mph it will be at a constant 3,500 rpm.

I wish i had a 6th gear.
