I don't see how a jacket can be ripped off of someone without taking body parts with it. I think that was his point.

He is pointless in more ways than one.

When I came off once I was wearing a leather jacket that, when I hit the ground, slid right up my arm and the cuff ended up way above my elbow. This jacket had a nice strong zipper on the sleeve to keep it snug on my arm but the impact tore it away regardless.

I have a few jackets that were involved in many accidents above 40 mph. 2 major ones and 1 minor. Can't show you the pics since I'm not suscribed to photobucket or stuff like that. All I can say is that they look pretty good just a few scufffs here and there.

How much energy does it take to remove a jacket enough to do harm?

I have to say I am very confused I don't see how a jacket can be ripped off of someone without taking body parts with it. I think that was his point.

Does it need to come off completely to reduce the protection? Or is just pulling down over your shoulders and wadding around your waist good enough to allow road rash on your shoulders and back?

I think that if the accident is bad enough to tear the zipper and the strap that goes across the neckline (at least I think most motorcycle jackets have these, all 3 of mine do)... and you fall in a way that pulls the jacket down in that manner... you have more problems to worry about other than road rash.

But we were talking about having the front unzipped so there is no zipper holding the neck line closed. A strap may be a bad idea at that point... but my jacket doesn't have one (counts on the zipper) so I can't say.

meh, most the time I wear my jacket closed except for extreamly low speeds (under 30), at that slow I doubt the jacket would be striped of, plus I still have my neck stap on was it would have to some how go threw that as well.

Anyways this might be old news soon as I bought a teknic 1-piece and when it arrives will take it for a test spin.

(bikes + gear + insurance + gas is expensive though!)
