There is a very strong reason for England to not switch to the Euro. To do so it would have to give up the power of having it's own central bank. A very large problem for the EU with the euro is that every country had vastly different economies. Any action of the central bank will help one country while harming another. Until the economies of the EU start to level out with one another there will be continual problems with liquidity and monetary policies.

England, currently has a strong currency and a great central bank. Joining the EU might argueably help the EU, but it will certainly hurt the powerful English economy.

You don't have to believe me, you could get a much more detailed version from any economist, or even an econ major halfway worth his salt in monetary policy.

I didn't read this whole post so sorry if this has been said. I believe it is illegal to import absinthe to the U.S. when it's in its final form. However, it is not illegal to import the kits that you can make it with.

I had some in Canada. It's alright, nothing too crazy. I expected more.

The really real reason is that we would have to give up Stirling...

Surprisingly we have a definante tendancy to be proud of our national identity, part of that identity is that we have been to war with every one of our Western European neighbours in the last few hundred years.

Basically its part of our national identity to hate the French, mostly for 1066, (apologies to any French reading, but then we know you havent forgiven us for Agincourt) and be somewhat distrustful of the Germans.
