Up until my accident last week, I was riding. Good gear is the key ;-)

If you have overpants that let the wind blow up them, get some gaiters. Helps keep you dry and warmer. Example at:

They even help a bit when not wearing overpants. Goretex is surprisingly warm.

I get the chill in two places, wrists and neck. The full face helmet is brilliant, although it's the first one I've had.
A fleece neck tube is an amazing cheap way to keep your neck and chin warm.

You either need longer gloves or longer sleeves.

Hands are the worst thing. I have wondered on a couple of occasions if I was going to leave my fingers in the gloves when I got them off.

But there is a great emergency remedy for frozen finger: toilet tissue from a service station lavvy! Wind it round your fingers before putting your gloves back on. Believe me: it works VERY well!

Don't knock it! Sufficient pain is the mother of all kinds of invention.

(It's a bit fiddly getting it on, I'll admit, so the moral is, do it before your hands get too cold to cope.)

Just clarifying here, used or unused. :?

I don't want to seem critical of your national habits down there in South Africa, sapaul, but here in Britain public lavatories only dispense unused toilet tissue.

You mean living somewhere where it doesn't get cold is the key......right? :P
