On a particularly rainy day this fall, dr_bar and I were riding back into town from the toy run. We talked about the high beam thing and so he used them behind me so I could see whether they were a bother or not and whether they made a difference or not.

Given that it was daytime but very dull and rainy the brights did not bother me, but they sure made him more visible.

Thanks it's nice to be appreciated,

being someone who rarely gives a damn what other people think of me and having a certain amount of anonimity behind my full face, it is sometimes fun to be a nuisance and it takes the stress out of sometimes stressfull situations. I have had whole lanes of cars move over that 2 feet to let me pass because I had on full brights, hazards and I thanked the drivers with a toot toot. The herd mentality kicked in and they all moved.

Now that feels good

Dont do brights at night, people get startled and brake or suddenly change lanes, I almost killed a rider like that.

Good Post. I do think brights in the day is the way to go. But now help me with your openions about this one; What about those head light modulators? OK, firts I live in NJ. So this info will help you guys figureing out laws I do not know about if any. Now I spent many years runing heavy equipment around with tractor trailer low boys and the like so I know a flash of a head light says you are clear to go or pass or proceed. But what about when you have a modulator on and the lights are constantly flashing at a good clip at what ever pattern you choose. The other motorists will surely see that from a distance ( you hope ) and should not take it as a " go ahead or pass " You would think. So if my lights have been flashing way before lets say an intersection, and I am coming through would a cager tend to watch what I;m doing or would it make no diff at all. I was thinking they may say "what in blazes is this jerk doing" and be careful about what they do. That may be in theory right, but will that actually happen? Also it pays to tap your brakes a few times to catch anothers attention with a flashing brake light before you start to slow right? What about those modulators for brakes, they will do the taping for you. Are they a good idea, what do ya guys and gals think?

Hey Thanks for the link to NJ Motorcycle laws, I will save that link. But now what about your all thoughts and experience on this? Any body have anythig to add to my questions about cagers and modulators?

at night you can see my low beams just fine - during the day, you can't see them at all. If the sun is up, I ride with my brights on.

Odered a modulator from Kris.com. It is currently held up at SA customs because they don't know what it is or does. In communication with Kriss, they said I am the first to ordewr from SA. I will let you have the reactions when and if I get it.

During the day I ride with low-beams on and use my passign trigger quite a bit... at night I always ride with high-beams on... My bike has 2 lights in the front and I can make them alternate back and forth... it brings a lot of attention to me sorta like cop lights.
