WHOOHOO & DOH!

#1 Unread post by CRobL »

Got it running:) but it's having intemittent problems on the front cylinder:(

After hour upon hour upon hour of troubleshooting and adjusting my bike, it's finally running. :) After I've rebuilt and readjusted the carbs, I've troubleshot and replaced the petcock, I've changed the old oil, I've tested the ignition coils (both read the same, just a little high on secondary resistance), I've swapped out spark plugs, I've clipped the spark plug wires and redid them, I've check the spark on the plugs and both look the same and I've done other things and I'm having another problem.

The front cylinder seems to cut out intermittently, losing me half of my power. I should note that I haven't synced my carbs yet.
I should also note that I cut the wires down about 1 inch or less and screwed the caps back on tight.

Detailed story below.

Here's what happened yesterday. I got up in the morning and commenced to take a 45 minute ride. It was cloudy, about 62 degrees out, and a little windy. I hopped on my bike and rode north past the army nature preserve and came back without a single problem.

Then, later in the day, I was going to the library for tax forms and the hardware store for some.... hardware. After taking a left at my first light, my power cut in half and I was having trouble getting up the hill. So I stopped on a level surface, kicked the bike on it's centerstand, and checked the float bowl fuel levels. Both looked good. Then I pulled the plugs and neither were flooded.

I continued on the half powered ride to my chores and was on my way back when the front cylinder kicked back in and gave me a surge. OK, so everythings fine now, right? No, I get home and put her on the kick stand for a couple of hours, come back out, and have only half my power again. Checked my plugs and float levels again, all fine.

Now, this morning, I took a little morning jot and she's running great. How about in a couple hours? I don't know, but I'll see when I get there. :) :) :(
