Best way to repair cracks in a fairing?

#1 Unread post by fiveoboy01 »

My EX500 has a couple cracks on one side of the fairing which were there when I bought it. Here is what I was thinking about doing...

Rough up the inside of the fairing on either side of the crack with an abrasive pad.

Cut some fiberglass cloth strips 2 or 3 inches wide, long enough to cover the length of the crack.

Mix up some epoxy, and smear it along/over the crack on the inside.

Lay the fiberglass cloth over the crack and work it around so the epoxy soaks into it.

Patiently hold fairing crack together until the epoxy cures enough to hold everything together.

The cracks are clean and there are no chunks missing, so touch up paint will be minimal and mabye not necessary.

Does this sound like a good way to go about fixing this, or is there a better way?

Thanks.

Sounds about right. You can "tack weld" the crack from the inside with a soldering iron so it holds together while you apply the epoxy and fabric.

You mean melt it together in a couple spots right?

That's a great idea, I will try that.
