Meanstreak 1st bike

#1 Unread post by Bachstrad37 »

That's right! I bought one as a first bike.

Background - as a kid, I drove dirt bikes til I was 15. Lots of snowmobiling and four-wheeling experience, but never licensed as a road rider. I also road race (bicycle) for 5 years. I'm now 33.

My MSF course is scheduled for this weekend. I'm confident I'll pass it, but with anything, improvements can and will be made at all levels.

Now...a Meanstreak as my first bike. It's a used 2003 with 6k miles on it. I put down $3k cash down and will pay off the other $4k come a couple of weeks and will have the bike. From frequent visits here at TMW, I'm getting a hint that I'll be the village idiot for buying a Meanstreak as a first bike.

Let's have it! Am I a moron?!?

-Regards-

+1

your not an idiot, not everyone has to start on a smaller bike. the point most people are trying to get across is many things are easier to learn on a smaller bike. and even if you used to dirt or quad ride, you'll still have a LOT to learn.

good luck, those are mean looking bikes, i wouldnt mind havin' one as a 3rd or 4th bike

have fun and ride safe.

Not yet, but anything is possible...

It was a toss up between the VTX1300C and a Meanstreak. I see VTXs everywhere, so I wanted to be a little different. I guess looking at some photos of Zoo's bike made me more decisive in the direction my drool.

Drop it? I sure hope not.

I do appreciate everyone's input on this forum tho. You don't know how close I was to buying an R6 as my first bike. After careful research and months of reading, I really think I made a rational choice.

Again, thanks all. I hope to have it in a couple of weeks. Will post some pics. in a couple weeks.

Good luck with everything! Definitely post some pics when you get it.

In the meantime, you may want to drop by Gadget's Page and read up on maintenance and performance tricks.

I think that's cool man -- you've got a bike you love. Just treat it with respect and you're fine. Enjoy.
