falling hurts

#1 Unread post by DirtyD86 »

i went to the dealer and picked up my ninja 250 today, its my first bike and i had no idea how to ride when i bought it. i had it trucked home, then started practicing in neighborhoods near my house. i was trying to get comfortable with first gear and accidentally gave it too much throttle, the bike took off. i didnt know how to react to all that acceleration since im still fairly ignorant about shifting and braking on motorcycles. i fell going about 20, luckily i got a leather jacket, helmet, and gloves before i left the dealer, so im not cut up too bad. just a little scape on my leg and bruises on my upper body. my otherwise flawless ninja now has a scrape down the right muffler and the turn signal cover popped off. it scared the $hit out of me for a few minutes, then i hopped back on and kept practicing. by the end of the night i was shifting fairly well and riding with medium traffic no problems.

heres a picture of the bike

Considering a Ninja 250 verm?

And falling does hurt. But good job not letting it keep you down. And you may want to consider adding riding pants to your gear.

nope, i just agree w/ not recommending super sports to beginners.

but i'll still get whatever i want and can afford.

my mind is very set on getting a GSX-R600 K6 for my replacement bike.

but im crazy so i don't recommend what i do others.

Aw, it's too bad that you went down. It's just another little lesson. Even with a small bike, if it's a new bike to you, it's important to start off very slow. It's great that you hopped right back on - if you do it quick enough, loss of confidence has no time to set in. Stay safe and keep practicing. It only gets better!

Cheers,
Loonette

Battle scars. Yours isn't unique, lotsa bikes have 'em (including one of mine!) S--t happens. You got back on the bike, that's what's important.

You just illustrated the point on why people should take a training course first.

Do kids who have never driven a car go out and buy new cars and rush out and start driving it? No. They usually have a parent teach them or take a drivers education course.

But for some strange reason, people think it's perfectly fine to go buy motorcycles and just start riding them with no formal instruction whatsoever. Weird. I'll never understand that mentality.

Well, have fun. I hope you don't hurt anybody out there.

Way to hop back on it. That's the best thing you could have done. Don't worry about the bike being too scratched up, everyone uses it as a beginner bike and it won't hurt it's resale too bad
