Yeah, I hear the entire system and installation can be killer. I got quoted in NYC that the LoJack itself is $595 and installation would be $195.
But after hearing countless stories of super-fast thefts, including our own beloved Verm's Gixxer kidnapping, I'd say that anyone in a high-risk area such as L.A. and New York, should have no problem considering the initial damage to the pocket.
The way I see it, sportbikes are many times the main targets of the thieves. Much lighter than cruisers, standards, and Harleys and more popular amongst the younger crowds who are much more eager to dish out the cash for a bike way to advanced for them. Therefore, sportbike owners should be even faster to consider getting one.
That being said, if you've got a bike and willing to spend a grand on a new exhaust pipe, tinted windscreen, powder-coated rims, and racing decals, then I'm sure an equal investment for the LoJack to protect and insure the safety of your precious add-ons is well worth the price.
Me personally, I'm paranoid parking my bike for 20 minutes to get a haircut if I can't see it. Therefore, I've seriously considered getting a LoJack installed so that in the unfotunate event of my bike being taken, I can retrieve it before too much harm is done and I can work on giving a little street justice to the punk-a$$ bastards who nabbed it.
Sure, I'm out $700 but I can rest easier at night knowing my $8,000 investment is secure when I'm not baby-sitting her.
Only thing that sucks is if you ever get rid of the bike, you can't get keep the LoJack or switch it to a new bike since each LoJack system is linked to one specific VIN number for the police. So if you're going to get one installed, don't plan on getting rid of your bike or crashing it anytime soon.
