So after posting praise for NYC DOT on Thursday for the motorcycle safety public service message here is a story as to why reminder once in a while to be 100% vigilent 100% of the time is worthwhile. BTW this motorcycle fatality happend in NYC the same evening of my NYC DOT post..

So did the impact of hitting the water kill him or did his body make contact with the car on his way to the river? thats sad...ten kids left without a dad.

This will only add to the stigma that motorcyclists are irresponsible esp if they have children while there is no word on who was actually to blame here. I can hear it now "motorcycles are dangerous and shouldn't be allowed" without the people taking into account of the other driver's actions.

I live in NYC and these livery drivers love to swerve in and out like squids on bikes.
One thing you can count on: You push a man too far, and sooner or later he'll start pushing back.

that pic of the bike on its end.....is hard to believe. I am going to venture that he was dead before he hit the water....I hope he was. 10 kids....wow....

He hit the rear window of the car in front of him...

From the video clip in the link, it seems that he wasn't paying enough attention to traffic. When the car in front of him stopped suddenly, he didn't. He rear ended the car, and that was all she wrote.

Sad, sad, sad.
