I need a job!

#1 Unread post by camthepyro »

Damn, I need a job, like, really bad. The whole reason I actually got a motorcycle originally was to have transportation to a job. Before I got the bike and license, I had a few people calling me for interviews for decent jobs, that I had to turn down because I didn't have transportation yet. Now that I have transportation, I can't get an interview!

Sorry, just had to rant, anybody got any suggestions on the job issue?

Helpfull tips?

Seriously though Cam, there are allways jobs out there that need doing, even if they are crap, they'll pay some bills til you find what you want to do (just because your working, doesnt mean stop looking) Example call centers, crap jobs but they usually pay well. some expirience might do good on a resume. First step in your job hunt is getting a good resumee togther, consider getting it done by a professional even.

Well, right now I'm not discriminating against any job, I'll take anything right now, but I can't find anything. I've got a resume which I'll post a copy of below, in case any body sees something particularly bad in it that I should change:

Resume:

Cameron _______

____(address)________

Acworth, Georgia _____

Home (678)-910-****

OBJECTIVE

To be a contributing team member where my abilities and experience in customer service can be a significant factor in helping achieve the company goals. To find an entry-level position with a company that will provide an interesting work environment.

HIGHLIGHTS OF EXPERIENCE

Experience In Customer Service

Most of my talents lay in the customer service area. All of the Jobs I have held have required extensive customer service ability, and I have always fulfilled, and exceeded expectations in that department. I have consistently been able to resolve any issues a customer may have, and have always made them feel at ease, and ensured that they left the establishment happy.

Extensive Computer Skills

I have exceptional ability in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and FrontPage, Adobe Photoshop, and Acrobat. I have experience in FTP programs, as well as intermediate HTML, Java programming, C++ programming, and Visual Basic programming knowledge. I can learn to use just about any program very quickly, and I’m familiar with most common web browsers including: Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera, Mozilla, and Mozilla Firefox. I also have experience in the hardware aspect of computing. I am able to completely disassemble/reassemble a computer, and build a computer from scratch. I can easily troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair and hardware malfunctions. I also have a lot of experience with peripherals (printers, USB devices, etc.).

Automotive Experience

I also have a lot of experience working on cars, trucks, and motorcycles. This includes mechanical work, such as rebuilding carburetors and replacing engine components, as well as basic maintenance, like oil changes, transmission fluid changes, wheel balancing and rotating, etc.

EMPLOYMENT

August 2004 to Coldstone Creamery, Medlock Crossing, Duluth Georgia

November 2004 Crew Member

Making, preparing, and serving ice cream. Using the cash register, credit card machine, etc. Cleaning, including sweeping, mopping, trash, windows, etc. Helping customers with any issues or discrepancies that may have arisen.

April 2005 to Bruster's Ice Cream, Old Milton Pkwy., Alpharetta Georgia

July 2005 Crew Member

Making and serving ice cream. Tending the cash register. Cleaning and general store up-keep. Customer service.

October 2005 to Arby's, Wade Green Rd., Kennesaw Georgia

December 2005 Cashier

Although my job title was "Cashier" I actually performed virtually every task at the restaurant, including: preparing food (sandwiches, salads, chicken, appetizers, wraps, etc.), working the drive-through (required extensive multi-tasking abilities), cleaning, and customer service.

EDUCATION

July 2006 Gwinnett Technical College

Duluth, Georgia

GED

I am in the process of earning my GED through the Adult Literacy program at the Gwinnett Technical College, and will receive it in July.

Hey, dont forget about Dekalb Tech's motorcycle class.
It's only a 1 year program, and Mike the instructer has connections in almost ALL the dealerships in metro Atlanta. Not to mention you'll get see his triumph trophy with "Then Came Bronson" stickers on it.

Financial aid, they paid me about 1k a quarter to go to school.
Once you get your GED you will get a hope grant or scholorship that will pay for all of it. I think It's only 300 something a quarter.

But I got HOPE and whatever the other one was, hope paid for tuition and i pocketed the other check, wich was 600 dollors and up to 1000 dollors, a quarter.

I dont know if you qualify for the other financial aid but if u do, they literally pay you to go to school.

Dude, if you have to, pump gas. I'm sitting on 4 years of IT training at a tech highschool, but can't find a IT job in this area. So i pump gas. It sucks, but it's full time and a steady income. Decent benefits and good co-workers. You gotta do what you gotta do. Just take it from me, dicriminate HARD agains washing dishes. I mean REAL hard. That "poo poo" sucks BAAAAD.

Oh yeah, once you get a job, you can afford certs. A+, Net+, MCP, MCSA, MCSE, Cisco, etc. Certs look real good on a resume for a techie job. That reminds me, i should get an A+ and Net+ book and re-learn some ish so i can get those...

Or, if worse comes to worse, join the USAF. That's my plan if i can't get out of shitty customer service jobs by the time I'm 22.
