Getting a new helmet, any ideas?

I recently got a Vemar VSR helmet, but decided I didn't like some aspects of it that I wasn't overly fond of (plus I can't find a tinted visor for it ANYWHERE!) So I put it up on Craigslist and sold it today. So now I'm on the hunt for a new lid. I've tried on several, many of which I like, some of which I don't.

I'd love to get an Arai RX-7 Corsair or Quantum 2, but I'd really rather not drop $600+ on a helmet. Same with the Suomy SPEC-1R. So I'm looking for a good helmet that won't put me in financial chaos.

I'm thinking about getting a new HJC AC-12. It fits my head well, feels pretty good, and I've heard good things about it. The AC-11 is also not too bad, although I've heard the ventilation is shoddy in it.

Any other ideas? I'm not a big fan of Icon, but most other brands seem alright to me. It needs to be a full face (no flip up either). Just thought I'd see what other people like.

The bottom line is that you need to get the right helmet for you. I have a Scorpian EXO-700 and love it, but it might not fit your head well. Get what feels best to you and you will be happy.

I've heard wonders about the Scorpion and that will most likely be my next helmet as well.

They seem to fit odd shaped heads (Me! Me!) so comfort is nice no matter who you are.

Plus $199 is great!

I've heard alot of people mention Scorpion, their helmets are just so darn hard! Of course, HJC is pretty hard in general (the two hardest helmets were the Scorpion EXO-700 and then the HJC AC-11 respectively). I dunno how I feel about that yet. That's one of the things I liked about the Vemar, it was pretty soft.

I'll make sure a helmet fits before I buy it, just trying to get some ideas. I'll look into the Scorpions. I'd love to try on a Shark but no one I know of carries them!

I actually have a Gmax helmet (it came with the bike) but I don't like the feel of it at all.

If you want a HJC helmet, check this deal out:

https://www.motoxoutlet.com/index.asp?P ... rodID=1190

Here is a quote from the advertisement:

"Purchase any of our close out jackets for $119.99 and get a Free HJC helmet
of your choice (Retail value up to 119.99)

If you want a more expensive helmet you just pay for the difference."

I ordered an HJC CL-15 and JR Rio (mesh) jacket from them for 119.99. Pretty good deal!

Not a bad deal (although I REALLY don't need a jacket). I think it'll be cheaper in the long run to just stick with the helmet though.

Well, to bad you don't like Icons. Newenough.com and cyclegear.com have some good deals on Icon helmets right now.

I have 2 Icon full face and a HJC open face. They all feel great on my head. In fact, when I was trying on the helmets at the stealership, the Icons felt the best of all of them to me. Even over the more expensive helmets. Must be one of those that match my head shape perfect.

Anywho, get what feels best on ya. That is the best way to do it.
