asphault slip n' slide

#1 Unread post by jtf_explorer »

my jacket is the icon superduty jacket. it has the textile torso with the leather sleeves. I saw some comparisons how jeans last 4 feet when sliding on pavement and leather last 80 feet or something like that. I was just wondering how my and other textile jackets stack up against leather and if you guys believe in leather only.

They wear leathers on the race track, so they obviously trust leather more. The textile jackets are pretty good though, and when trying them on, they seemed to have a little more armor thickness than the leather. Those Icon textiles are pretty thick and have quite good armor and I was close to buying one myself. I liked the feeling of it a lot. Then I found the Alpinestars leather jacket I have now and had to have it. I would buy either personally, but in the end the leather will probably stand up longer in the crash.

jeans last 4 foot? no way i rollerblade and ive fallen with jeans and theyve shredded in less than 1 foot slide, and thats going rather slow falling to my knees... jeans offer no protection at all falling off a bike at speed

It really depends on how you fall. I went down about a month ago in jeans and slid probably 30-40 feet. Jeans were completely unscathed except for where my keys were in my pocket. Not even scratched up otherwise. Not saying I'd want to be in jeans in a high speed wreck, but just relaying personal experience.
