Helmets

#1 Post by Everette » Tue May 30, 2006 11:35 pm

I currently have a full face helmet and have had one for years. My face is getting fatter and I'm getting older and my pretty skin is breaking out because of the heat. I'm looking at going to a 3/4 or 1/2 helmet. Any recommendations?
Thanks

Grab one of your mates, go outside and have him throw a handful of gravel into your face as hard as he can from about three feet away.
If this sensation pleases you then an open face helmet should be right up your alley.

If you've been used to a full helmet you're probably better of going to a 3/4 with a flip up face shiled, that's what I have. I had to wear a 1/2 helmet a couple of times and I hated it, the fit is diffrent, it feels alot looser and I can't stand all that wind in my face when im on the highway. Now if you have a wind shield it might be diffrent for you.

To each his own though, some people love them. My husband wears one all the time.

I have a windshield and I am leaning toward a 3/4. I don't think I'm going to have a choice in making some type of change. Thanks for the input.

Not if he has a decent size shield.

Perhaps. Second test would be to dive face-first onto the road and see how things hold up. Call me paranoid, but I just can't make myself get a 3/4 no matter how tempting it is sometimes.

Everette, have you tried some different brands of full face lids to see if any fit you better?

I may have to try another full face. I like the idea of the full face but it is really killing me. My face is broke out like a circle where the front of the helmet sits on my face. It took me a while to realize what was causing it. I really don't care about looks so much but it looks really bad.
Thanks

Get the full faced...the 3/4 just protects the back and top of your skull. Saw a girl crash @ 25mph, first thing that busted off was the shield, its worthless except for keeping the wind/bugs out. Your face is what everyone sees first, why put it at unnecessary risk?

Do you have a tinted visor? That would help with heat, maybe a better ventilated helmet. It seems odd that youve had one for years and suddenly it is making you break out. Did you wash the interior padding at all? If so, maybe the detergent you used is causing a reaction. If not, maybe there is a fungus or bacteria buildup in the fabric that is causing it and it needs a good cleaning.

I use the HJC CL-33 3/4 helmet. It is comfy and fits me nice. Gotta face shield on it. Pretty affordable at about $90 US.
A dog had his chain reduced one link at a time, every few days, until his chain was so short he could barely move. He never resisted because he was conditioned to the loss of his freedom slowly, over time. Are we in this country becoming like the dog?

This is a new helmet that I just bought a couple of months ago when I got my new bike. I really believe it is just the heat. I'm going to look a bigger size first.
