This has been an incredable past 2 days. Still ongoing, #3 forums are down because of excessive bandwith.

Wow, that's pretty sad. I am sorry that someone lost their cellphone...but seriously, grow up! I am oblivious to what myspace is, but I know that kids post pictures and stories. Obviously it can also be used to defame and ridicule others. How quaint.

To the authors of that site please, for your own sake, learn how to write properly. Employers are not impressed with "ur trendy wr8ing skillz". At least the owner of the cellphone managed to write semi-coherently.

The parties may be in their 20s, but they act as though they were 13.

PS: Who in their right mind pays $300 for a phone?

My phone cost about $500. Of course I didn't pay for it (corporate perk), but features are expensive.

And the forum they are talking about is their own forum... they are excited because they've gotten half a million hits in 1.5 days.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

Basically a girl lost her cellphone, but it's one of the ones that automatically uploads everything to the net when you do it. Passwords etc. Someone found it, and has been using it. When she got a new cell all the info that the "finder" put into it was availible to her.

The person who "found it" refused to give it back and has been threatening all sorts of stuff.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

Some dumb girl left her sidekick in a taxi.

Another dumb girl finds the sidekick and starts using it.

Because of how sidekicks work (and sidekicks are a security nightmare... if you have any paranoia about personal privacy don't get one) the first dumb girl now has access to pictures and the AOL nym of the second dumb girl.

Insults fly, a web page gets built to shame the second dumb girl into returning the sidekick, that page gets slashdotted, next thing you know it is a media sensation...and threats are flying... and people are videotaping the second dumb girl's house... and police are getting involved....

...all because some chick left her cell phone in a cab.

edit: sev beat me to it... but yeah...

Close, though it's not on myspace. To get the pictures of the people they used myspace because of its image capabilitys. Things related to this have been croping up on myspace out of shear popularity for not only the article, but myspace as well.

I think the whole thing is pretty stupid as well, though I find it very very funny. I still can't believe 5 forums got taken down through over usage.
