VTX1300C or VTX1800C Which one is better??

#1 Unread post by M109R »

Live in Denver and I am very interested in riding in the mountains. Was told the 1800 was tough to do curves and the 1300 was much better on them. However the 1300 has carbs (which suck at high altitude if set up for lower elevations.) Also, I am 6'2" 220lbs.

Any opinions / experience would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Change Name

No, I'll stick with it. It's a cool bike to use for a name and easy to look up

i've got an 1800R (styling differences from the C only). it's a pig in low speed turns, but once you get used to it it's manageable, i commute through town daily with it. it has a ton more power than the 1300, something like a 30bhp advantage, combined with fuel injection would make life a lot easier in the mountains. if you get one, pitch the seat right away, the stock ones are horrible

Seat and Curves

#5 Unread post by M109R »

Thanks for the info.

Do you recommend Corbin seats? If so, which style.

On regular speed curves is the 1800 ok? I heard that you often need to counterweight in the turns... This the big reason keeping me from the 1800. Generally to be able to relax and enjoy my curves...

i've got a corbin, pricey, but your "O Ring" will thank you.
regular speed and up turns are fine, nice twisty roads are fine, just when you get to the 15mph hairpins you start to notice how big the bike is.

At what?

One is very powerful, one handles corners pretty well. Which attribute is more important to you? If you desire both, I would suggest looking at the Warrior, M109R, or Mean Streak. All three are fuel-injected and utilize sportbike-derived running gear and brakes.

Thanks for the other suggestions. I'll check them out.

Sportiness in a cruiser is what I am looking for.

OK, I'll contribute for real. The vtx1800 is a pig, but the 1300 lacks efi, so I think you've got to go with another brand. The warrior and the meanie are the one's I'd go with.

I agree... warrior or meanie for that type of riding. Or ditch the traditional cruiser idea.

V-Max is fast, but not great in the corners... there are fixes for that though.
