$4K for an 06 ninja 250

#1 Unread post by rugaluga »

So I went into the local Kawasaki store here in southern california to inquire on the ninja 250. They had one brand new 06 in red. Pretty nice but not the color I was looking for. So I asked her wht the OTD price would be and she quoted me $3900. Does this sound about right to what you guys are paying? She says their are freight and handling fees and that the bikes dont come assembled. I could have swore alot of peeps on here were getting these bikes for around $3400 new. Also they said they were going to probaly get in 2007 models soon. Do you think I should just wait for those?

I havent heard about kawi making any big changes to the 250. I'd try to find a 2000-2004 in good shape. Will be a lil less, And you wont cry quite as much when you forget to put the kickstand down.

Where are you in SoCal?

$3500 was common in May (when I bought mine)... $3400 is a better price but this is the season for riders wanting cheap high mileage bikes I guess. If you wait until the '07s are selling you might pick up an '06 for less than $3400. But then you won't get to ride for a month or more.

In my case, I've saved something like $240 in gasoline (real savings... as in my cc bill is that much lower) since buying the bike... so waiting two months to save $100 would've been a bad deal. I'm an extreme case though... bought the bike on 5/1/06 and it now has over 3500 miles.

The used market is nuts around here. People want $3000 bucks for used 250s... $2700 for a '04 with 2200mi was a pretty good deal when I was shopping....in fact I saw one ad where someone wanted $4000 for his '05 250... that's $500 more than out-the-door on a brand new '06 bike!

Faced with that sort of insanity, I chose to buy a new bike and haven't regretted it. :)
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

Yeah it depends on where you go, time of day, month, year, etc. $3500 is a fair price especially if you're getting a color you want. When I went to buy mine, I was looking for a black 250R but only one of the shops in my area had one in stock and it was a yellow one. I would be okay with yellow if it was offered to me at a decent price but I was also quoted at $4K. According to my salesperson I was getting a great deal because it costs them $800 for freight/assembly because it's shipped from Japan.

When you walk in and hear anything about Freight/Assembly think of it as "my markup" because that's what it is. All you should expect to pay for the bike at the least is MSRP + License/Doc (for CA it's like $150-175) and CA state tax. For the Ninja 250R getting at MSRP is about right, dealerships make very little money off these bikes which is why the sales people are always so pushy to get you onto something bigger. When I bought my Ninja 250R the salesperson was trying to get me onto a liter bike eventhough I told him I was a new rider with no experience. He also told me about how I'd get bored with the bike in four months and it would be a waste of money. I'll have to shoot him an email in a few months and let him know I'm enjoying the bike and the $500 I saved.

You can get a EX250 OTD for $3,400 in Santa Ana, CA. They will charge you for delivery to your door if you choose to have them deliver it. If you're inexperianced at riding on the streets, it's best to have them deliver it.

I had the first chance to buy a used 2004 250 Ninja for $1800 from a reduced price of $2000 and this bike was like brand new with only 900 miles. I have seen new 250's going for $4699. Its a big selling bike for Kawasaki and its the law of supply and demand. Any hot selling bike is going to be more.
