It's fine. There are many people that are your height and even taller (and a lot heavier) who find it more comfortable than the ninja 500. Weight is a non-issue unless you are well over 250.
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

Have you sat on it yet? Have you sat on other bikes?

Look for some of BigChickenStrips posts - I think he's over 6' tall and he really likes his 250.
Ya right, there are only 2 kinds of bikes: It's a Ninja... look that one's a Harley... oh there's a Ninja... Harley...Ninja...

zzr 250 would be a safer bet for a beginner BUT a ninja 250 is a good selection for a first bike, i salute you.

yea, like karate said, the 250 is awesome, im 6'2 and 240lbs.

beware- the guy at the stealership will try to tell you its too small and you'll get bored on it. that becasue they dont make much comi$$ion from "cheaper" bikes liek the 250. the best way to tell if the sales guy is lying to you- look at his lips, if they are moving, he is probably lying. dont let them let them up-sell you to somethign bigger if you like the feel of the 250. its much faster than most any car, and is awesomly forgivign if you do stupid n00bie crap like dumping the clutch and missing shifts (i know i do that crap)

good luck and have fun; also the ninjette 500 has a horrible tank design for people over 6' so there is almost no way you'll comfortably fit on one of those, but the 250 uses a completely different (much more comfortable) tank design.
