Yay, helmet for my birthday!

#1 Unread post by DieMonkeys »

My dad and I went to Casey's Cycle City (apparently the only motorcycle shop around Newport News). Well, I had just planned on trying on a batch of things, boots, helmets, pants, etc. However, when I found the helmet I liked he whipped out his debit card and bought it for me! How cool is that. I'm now the proud owner of an HJC CL-MAX flip-face helmet.

It does seem secured enough but I havn't had the chance to wear it while riding and won't until I take the MSF course a couple of weeks from now. And even then it'll be low-speed. I won't get a high-speed test until about Christmas or even after that.

I really like my flip-up Nolan. I tried on the HJC and it latched securely as well... it was just too narrow on my head (not as bad as Shoei but enough to make sure my jaw ached after a while) but that's me not the helmet.

I think the flip-up is perfect for day-to-day riding... very practical, and much better protection than 3/4 helmets and the like.

Just be aware that it'll be noisier than most full face helmets. Not so bad at low speeds but at higher speeds you'll want ear plugs fer sure... not that you don't want them anyway of course.

Happy Birthday, Helmetday, or whatever! :)
Ride it like you think owning it matters.

Flip-ups are the bomb-diggity for riding around town. I love my Nolan, but yes, they are a bit noisier than a regular full face. On longer trips I use my full-face helmet but for short/in town rides a flip-up is great (especially if you're a glasses wearer like myself).

Congrats on the new helmet. I've got a Nolan N102 and I love the darn thing. Makes talking to a riding partner much easier. It is not easy to open (not hard either) so it won't open by accident or in a crash.
