I just got handed this flyer from a co-worker, advertising for the grand opening of this new custom cycle shop. The big show-off bike on the front doesn't appear to have a swingarm, AT ALL!!
So I ask her where the swing arm is and she replies, "There isn't one."
Anyone know how this works/if she knows what she is talking about?

Here is a link to the shop's website:

The "Swingarm-less" Chopper is the red one on the top.
Is it just a single swing arm on the other side? Or do they have something funny going on?

Hey that's not too far from my house and it seems they're having a grand opening on the 15th. I'll have to check them out...
It does have a single sided swing arm from their website.

Good deal.
Just trying to make sure that this little shop hasn't invented some insane electromagnetic/frictionless swingarm...

Well without being able to see the other side with the swingarm, if there is no sprocket, then it is a Friction Drive. They basically use a knurled aluminum drum that spins on the wheel for forward motion.

so what holds the wheel?

As long as it has a "swingarm" on the other side, it's basically a big bolt hub type thing that holds the wheel on. Basically just like a single sided swingarm on a Ducati or something.
EDIT: After going to Bourget's Bike Works website, I found out it's the Viper 2 and it's just a single sided swingarm.

That friction drive sounds pretty interesting. How does it get power to the drum? No sprocket, so there must not be a chain. Some weird shaft, maybe?
I asked around at work and all the guys seemed to agree that it was a single sided swingarm on the opposite side of the bike.

It is very likely shaft driven.

Basically it still has a chain but only to spin the drum. There is a special gearbox you use in order to spin the drum the reverse direction which spins the wheel in the forward direction.
