A goobye.

#1 Unread post by Uncle_Bob »

Hi guys, posted here a while back took my MSF course, got my licence, money for gear and the cycle, next step was the eye doctor for perscription lenses, unfortunatley I found out that my perephial (SIC?) vision is horrid. I cant see very well to my sides at all. So me riding a motorcycle is out of the question now. Im taking some herbal supplements that are suppsed to be good for your eyes I will visit the eye doc again in 6 moths. Thakns for the advice guys I learned alot on this board.
Be safe.

Do you have medical insurance? My mom has always had problems with her eyes and had really horrible peripheral vision. We are talking like a car 10' away looks more like 6". She ended up going through surgery to correct a couple of the tendons that controlled her eyes and gained a TON of it back. See if there are any other options

Best of luck man. I know this is a setback but keep with it and hopefully you can jump into the saddle before too long!

get the job, then get the surgery, then get the bike.

sorry to hear about your eyes, must be pretty out of whack though. i take it that it is too bad to get a motorcycle endorsement on your license? depending on how bad it is, if you could still get the license, you would just have to be extra careful when riding.

I need to take a medical exam/test every 6 months, Im currently researching what can be done to my eyes, unfortunatley its a simply inherited genetic trait for me, the eye sight degenrating over time.

He said he got his license and everything already I believe...

Are you just worried about being too much at risk with your condition? Maybe you could still ride yet rely on your ears a bit more, as well as keep your head turning maybe a bit more so you can see whats surrounding you.

Best of luck

All is not lost. There is a new procedure to fix the eye and is supposed to be much safer than that laser treatment... I'll see if I can dig it up.

you were right Kellanv i missed that ...if the DMV vision test approved you and the MSF course didn't scare the poop out of you it isn't an insurmountable problem. You could do it and be safer than many riders out there that have "perfect" vision, but if it's not comfortable for you, or you don't feel safe go with your gut.

Bob, don't leave us!

Just because you can't ride yet, doesn't mean you can't hang out here and learn a few things and get some laughs in the meantime!

Couldn't you just learn to turn your head more instead of relying on peripheral vision?

I wish you luck with the supplements. What about laser surgery or something like that?

(btw, I have an Uncle Bob) :D
