Hellow, Bikers my name is jonathan and i'm 16 years old and i have never ridden a bike and i want to get a hayabussa.
NO im just playing this is my real story.
I'm 16 years old and i live in NYC. I love bikes i grew up with bikes, my father had 3 bikes and all my cousins had one. i ridden a bike before but im not an expert. Im very mature about this bike thing, i know the risks and the dangers involve with bikes. I have read a couple of riding books. I know that i should start with a small bike, thats find with me but the thing is, im not sure wether i should get a bike or wait a year or so. Im planning on taking the MSF course this summer but the money is kind of tight right now so i'm goin to have to wait. I want my first bike to be a GS500F. IS the gs500f a good bike?
Please help me and give me advise on what should i do.
I've heard lots and lots of good things about the GS500 series. It is one of the bikes often recommended as a starter so you seem to be heading along the right lines.
I'd suggest especially if money is tight that you wait, I know its difficult, but if you wait and you are more likely to get a bike that will be reliable and not cut corners on the safety gear.
MSF class is a damn fine idea, I havent heard anyone slate it and you'll pick up many of the survival strategies needed to cope with cage's on the roads.
Okay slow down a bit. First as you know riding motorcycles can be very dangerous so taking a riding course is a must. Remember this is an expensive sport, after all bikes are expensive, insurance is costly, riding gear etc, and of course your limited riding season. Start saving and looking for a bike in the 500-600cc range. Smaller bikes are easy to handle and today's motorcycles have plenty of power in that size. I bought a new Honda 599 last year and have spent total to date including insurance around $14,500, of course I did buy all new riding gear. Start saving and while you wait spend some of your time researching associated costs.
if you are lookin for money figures, i got a 2003 katana 600, helmet, jacket and gloves with a full year of insurance paid for under 10g canadian. good luck and have fun.
I got a 1984 Yamaha FJ 600, a new helmet and winter gloves (already had a jacket, etc. ) for under $2000.00. My insurance is less then $20.00 per month.
Pretty good argument for buying used, doncha think?

Got you beat. I spent $200.00 for my 78 Honda CB750K. At the time she didnt run. $20.00 in parts and 2 hours labor got her running. My gear is almost all military issue (excpet for my $100.00 embroidered jacket).

I bought my '85 Suzuki GS450 for $600. Put about $100 in it over the year I had it. Sold it for $700 about 6 weeks ago. For gear, you can find very good stuff for reasonable prices. Look around online. I bought my jacket for $85 brand new and it is heavier, better quality leather than my friends $250 brand name jacket. Plus, mine has zippered vents, plenty of pockets, and a zip out thinsulate liner. Bought it at bikerleather.com (model BMJ800 is the one I have). Occassionally they run deals where you get a % off for ordering online which is how I got mine. My brother has a nice jacket he bought from hotleathers.com for $99. I've got 2 pair of boots that I paid $45 a piece for. One of those is a pair of Harley riding boots I found on Ebay. You can safely save money if you look around. Just be sure you know what you are getting because there is also plenty of cheap crap out there too.
Why does everyone post in bold now-a-days? What happened to good old fashioned plain text? It's easier to read, less effort to write in... just easier on us old folks.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
