Keeping your shoelaces OUT of the motorcycle

So I was puttin' down the road on my 250 going to Subway and went to turn left by getting in the center turn lane. About 20 feet before I had to stop I realized my left foot was stuck to the shifter.
"Oh CRAP...."
Here I am having to stop and don't quite realize yet it's possible to stop on one leg. So I use my awesome MSF-taught motorcycle skill(z) to do a 1 MPH balance while waiting for the car to pass, at which point I pull in and do a stop on my right foot.
Turns out the loop of of shoelace was wrapped around the shifter.
I now ride with my laces tucked into the sides. Good sandwich though (and getting used to the weird looks from drive-thru people
).

if i were you, i'd never wear anything w/ lace while riding.
one of my riding buddy has been out for a long time now bec of a shoelace accident. he needed surgery when the bike dropped on his feet.
be careful.

I think I've been tucking laces when on a two wheeler since I was a kid. On my old BMX bike, my shoelace got tangled up on the sprocket and that was the day I tucked in the laces.
My moto boots have velcro straps so I don't have that issue. Before I got those though I used hiking boots. I tied a loop twice with the laces so there wasn't so much slack.

Glad you got out of it ok.
The scenario you just experienced is one reason I'm switching from my lace-ups to a zipper-up boot. The other reason, its quick and easier to get my boots on....takes a few minutes tieing laces with un mano!

I always doubleknot my laces. I have to. I have this problem where my right shoelace always comes loose and unties itself. Like clockwork. Everytime. Different shoe, different laces, its always the same outcome. If I put my shoes on in the morning, drive (in the cage) to work with a regular knot in my shoes, the right side will be undone by the time I reach the door.
Does anyone else have this problem? I tie my shoes correctly...I think there is a flaw in shoe-lace-tying design. That, and I pray they will come out with some good looking Velcro shoes.

That's plenty scary sounding. You sure kept your cool.
I have zip boots that go just past my ankles right now & I like them cause they are fast & simple. I really like how some of the lace-up women's boots look but what has prevented me from getting any besides the cost is I like my current boots, it would take longer to put those on and the loose lace biz crossed my mind too.

I've always worn lace up combat boots for riding, and I've never had a problem with the laces getting tangled in anything.
The laces don't come far enough down the boot to catch on the shifter (they end before the toe cap) and I tuck them in to the top of the boot, just like I was taught in basic.
I wouldn't be caught dead wearing anything but heavy leather or motorcycle-specific boots to ride in.

I've seen several boot manf now make more boots with zipper-ups to go with their lace up styles and slip on boots. Some even incorporating the zipup and laceup on the same boot. I have a casual pair that I love for their ease of use = zipper, yet adjustability and good fit = laceup.
Many of the sport touringboots are slip on or zipperup. I ordered a pair of Sidi Jasmin Tepors, which I think are velcro (darn things been on backorder so long I forgot what they look like!)
DH wears his flight boots to ride, which, as someone mentioned lace up high so no exposed loops dangling down.

I ride in lace up boots that go over my ankles on a work day, I always tuck all the laces down inside the inside of each boot for that reason.
Wish I had of mentioned that on here much earlier so that wouldnt of happened to you...its a good tip given to me many years ago
