Says the parts counter guy while I'm sitting on a Ducati 750 Supersport...

"You know, if you're looking for a first bike, you should check out one of those Ninja 636's. They have less power than that Ducati."

He then went on to tell me his '06 CBR1000 wheelied while doing 280.

And this place is giving me hell about a job because they want someone that "knows bikes".

280, huh?

He actually said the words "two eighty"?

NASCAR typically tops out around 190 mph IIRC. Formula 1 cars occasionally break 200 (the record appears to be ~220)

The current MotoGP speed record is just under 216 mph.

Had he been Canadian, things would be different. I'd believe he hit 280 Kph (roughly 175 Mph), on a good long straight road (which we have a lot of) under good conditions. But the wheelie? Mmmmm.... no.

If that's the best they could do, isn't it obvious that they are seriously lacking someone who "knows bikes"?

Well, yes. Otherwise they have to spend time and money training you. Its easier to get who they need right off the bat. Kinda like airplane mechanics. Would you wanna ride in the plane that was just worked on by 'the guy who stayed at a Holiday Inn last night"?????

I almost rented a plane that was being maintained by someone like that once... "yeah the seat track is broken you just gotta ram a pen in there to keep the seat from sliding around...." ...and that was the least of its problems!
Ride it like you think owning it matters.
