Superbike on SpeedTV

Im really hating that show and I love sportbikes. It seems to me that they should change the name to SquidTV. If Superbikes were my only experience with sportbikes, I would think that the Hayabusa is the only motorcycle made. How many squids can you have on Hayabusas in one show?

Anyone feel the same?

I am disapointed with the show.

The subject is cool and some of the bikes are great but the directing and editing s#ck. They could do SOO much more giving the viewers the experience of riding the bikes they show and where the riders hang out.

When watching bike videos that are done right, you can really use your imagination to get into the experience they are trying to share. Even watching professional races I notice my eyes/head moving and my adrenline releasing when they use the helmet cam properly. Doesn't happen on Super Bikes.

Watching the host do the same old lame tricks every episode gets old or when they were testing the high speed bike WHERE WAS THE HELMET CAM????

The show needs someone with some Jerry Bruckhiemer production skills. It's just not anywhere near as fun as it could be.

Ya, I watched this weeks episode... it was just horrible. I can watch the occasional stunt and be entertained, but watching the same crap over and over again makes me ill.

Also, I would like to point out that SB is probably the only show about sportbikes on TV. Maybe a nod towards safety would be in order, considering how inherently dangerous riding is. Instead its a constant showcase of stunting, with rarely a crash shown.

I know Im ranting, but Im just sick of seeing people riding without even a nod towards the risk involved, and this show only rienforces dumb behavior.

I agree with you 100% VTX... they need to just start over with a new show.

I like to watch the show, but agree it could be so, so, so much better.

And agree wholeheartedly that it should be renamed "SquidTV", nice one!

I also suspect the show is paid for and produced by Icon's marketing department.

I like it. No one so far in any episode could quality as a "squid". Do you even know what a squid is? They have disclaimers after every commercial about how they are professionals, yadda yadda yadda, the hosts and participants of the show all wear full gear, and they do in fact talk about safety. If morons need to be banged over the head and realize that riding a 400+ pound piece of metal on wheels and doing stunts is dangerous then it is their problem.

Heh...

Squid: ['Noun'] {slang, generally considered derogatory} is an irresponsible motorcyclist; generally associated with a new or reckless motorcyclist seen riding erratically and/or beyond his or her capabilities often without appropriate riding gear.

The origin of the word is varyingly attributed as a contraction of squirreley and kid, or an acronym for "Stupidly Quick, Underdressed, Ignorant and Dangerous" or "Stupidly Quick, Underdressed and Imminently Dead" It is also attributed to a beginning motorcyclist using direct similarities to the aquatic sea creature by the same name. Observing a squid underwater, it seems that the creature is unable to change direction while swimming without first coming to a near complete stop. Once the squid does stop and change directions, it can very quickly accelerate back to its regular swimming speed. Beginning motorcyclists (especially sports bike riders) commonly have trouble turning the motorcycle with any substantial amount of speed (causing them to slow down to unnecessarily slow speed to take a turn), while at the same time have a tendency to ride very fast on the straight sections of the road.

One other explanation of the term "squid" as applied to poorly-clad, riding-beyond-their-abilities motorcyclists is thought to have originated in San Diego in the '60s. Newly-inducted sailors based there would frequently buy an inexpensive 2-stroke moto for transportation while on shore, whether they'd ever ridden before or not. So, you had large numbers of unprotected, inexperienced "marine life", squirting through traffic in a hurry and leaving a trail of black "ink" (smoke) behind them.

Often young, this motorcyclist is identified by their behaviour; (Reckless abandon, speeding, wheelies, stoppies etc.) and by their inappropriate attire; (Shorts, bass-ackwards ball cap, flip flops, Wife Beater T-shirt, etc). Such a rider eschews all or most of the protective gear worn by many riders (helmet, gloves, leather jacket, riding pants, and boots) and the social and legal norms of riding behaviour.

Often looked upon with derision by experienced motorcyclists.

Also referred to as "organ donors", "Zip-Splats", "Skin Crayons", and "soon-to-be-ex-motorcyclists" in tongue-in-cheek comments by other motorcyclists, comments that may have some basis in truth.

wasn't sure if this was the right show, but watched it a week or so ago when they were at Deal's Gap. and the host was at this shop and looked at this Icon ad or catalog and did the wry "who is that handsome guy?" obviously refering to himself.

seemed pretty cheesy all told with all the stunts and such. the spiderman bike was kind of cool looking and all, but the rest of the show seemed like an excuse to do stunting...and if i really want to see that i can just wander over to youtube /shrug
