What is the etiquette…what would you have done

Saturday morning, it is sunny and mid 70s outside and I do my usual routine of detailing my bike and my car. It takes 1.5 hours, the .5 being the bike. The bike has never seen bad weather and has certainly never seen a drop of rain, no need, for the three days a year it rains here I have the car. Daddy and son time for a couple of hours and then its of for my regular 32 miles run down the coast back up through the hills.

But today, something unusual happened and I didn’t know what to do. Now, I use Liquid Glass on my bike (http://www.liquidglass.com/) and after applying it, it needs to be in the sun for three hours. No probs normally, however, today I came up behind an older car at a light just before the coastal intersection. While we were stopped, he decided to use his windshield washers, which were (can you guess) aimed all wrong. I would say that 90% of the windshield cleaner fluid hit me and my poor old bike. No kidding, he used so much (because clearly only a little was actually hitting his windscreen) that my shirt was soaked and the bike looked like it had just been rained on.

What I decided to do was pull up next to him and show him my shirt. He seemed more afraid of me then aware of what I was trying to show him. I felt like knocking on his window because he was clearly trying to ignore me. I didn’t and went about my ride, the shirt dried out and I put another coat of liquid glass on the bike when I got back.

What would you have done? How can someone not notice when 90% of their windshield washer fluid is missing his car altogether?

Just venting but would love to hear what you would have done.

Cheers

I wouldn't have done anything. You ride a motorcycle, which exposes you to all sorts of external conditions. Just like if a vehicle kicks up a rock while traveling and the rock hits you. It's nobody's fault - just comes with the territory. If they had done something malicious, that would be different.

haha, the sad thing is I was thinking the same... But in all honesty, I agree with Loonette. Unless you think he was doing it on purpose, then there isn't much you could do.

If he rolled down his window you could explain his sprayers weren't adjusted correctly. But I don't think it'd be worth starting a fight over.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

In my opinion, you handled it well. I probably would have done the same thing. You tried to get his attention, but you didn't make it a big deal.

My bike is not made of sugar so there is no chance of it melting when it gets wet.
It has happened to me a lot and I would be a happy man if it was the worst thing I had to put up with from cagers.

i would have simply pulled forward or to the side if there were room, or honked to get his attention if there wasnt. but you were right in not starting a fight, meaningless things like that arent worth getting into it over.

I personally would have just laughed and continued on my merry way. No need in confrontation over windshield washer fluid...
