Motorcycle tires. THey were bald to begin with

I am wondering if there is anyway to know if the tire you have is worn out. What tread depth should they be? I knwo on a car 3 or below means it is time to change it. Also car tires have wear bars. How do you know if your bike tire is done for?

must be some expensive tires that have wear bars on your car tires cause I sure dont have any. My car tire I use a penny and if I can see the top of good ol abrahams head then its time to change them. then again im in the us of a so its different for me than some of those on this board. either way id like to know the answer as well so im jumping on board

All DOT tires have treadwear indicators/wear bars. That's car, motorcycle... you name it, if the Dept. of Transportation regulates it the wear bars are there.
The trick is that motorcycles are allowed shallower tread depth legally. Cars need 1/16th of an inch, motorcycles only need 1/32 of an inch... so the wear bars are half as tall as you are used to seeing on your car.
Just look around the center of the tread, you'll find 'em.

looks like some fun was had there. BTW if your buying a bike and its tires look like the pic that VX posted stay far away from it. that is a picture of a tire after coming off of the track.

No, that is in fact when tyres are at their best. They have a stack of rubber left on them and are nicely scrubbed in.

In the UK, the law states for motorcycles you should have 1mm of tread, 3/4 of the way across the center of the tread pattern (the edges of the pattern don't count)
I hope that gives you some kind of guide, whether or not your own country has it's specific laws

found the wear marks on my rear bike tire but not my front tire nor on my cars tread. Either way how much do bike tires normally cost for rear and front and do I just take it to any tire place like bel tire? I dont do tires even though im a mechanic tires are not something I deal with
