Here's the mighty FiZzer as she stands today.

Since I picked her up on February 27th, of this year, I've done the following...

Cut down and painted the stock windscreen (for better air flow - I also have a back up stock screen for cooler weather)

Givi Top Case (plus extra brake light on top case) and Side Cases

R1 can (slightly louder, lighter and better looking than the stock can)

Alaska Leather Sheepskin Buttpad

LED turn signals, license plate light and brake lights

Added three additional brake lights: two red 6 SuperBright LED strips (above and below the license plate) and two 10mm red LED license plate bolt lights

And 6000 miles (unfortunately, mostly commuter miles)


I've also convinced my son to go riding with me... now everytime I say I'm goin' for a spin (besides going to work) he asks if he can come along.

I've still got a few things left to do. I've got my HotGrips to put on before the weather turns cold. I also need to get either the Yamaha FZ1 Touring Screen or a LaminarLip and some MX hand guards for winter riding. There's a guy on the FZ1OA site who's making some highway pegs for the FZ. I've ordered a pair and I'll trade out my frame sliders for the pegs when I'm doing distance riding. I also need to trim down the rear fender... it just looks too damn long for my tastes.

I think I'll try to upgrade the suspension next year. I'm definitely NOT a 145 pound Japanese man... which is what this bike is built for. :laughing: I'll upgrade the suspension later. I've blown a ton of cash on the FiZzer this year... the boingers can wait.

Here's another shot of the screen... by far the most amount of work I've done. Cutting acrylic and making it look ok isn't the easiest thing in the world.

I'm thinkin' it will be spring time before I make it up there, but it is on my list of places to ride to and see. I'm makin' a run to Utah in September. I'll take 2 days and hit small side roads and outta the way highways on the way down and then I'll superslab it back to P-town and try to do the run from SLC to PDX in one day. :wink:

Looks great. I love the can. You say that is a stock R1 can? Looks perfect for that bike. Some of the sports bikes have the ugliest (and heaviest) mufflers, so it is no wonder few keep the stock cans.

I've thought of doing the same thing regarding hard bags with my ZRX, but cash is strapped for the forseeable future, and of course owning a bike has many other expenses that I can't avoid. :? Anyway, fantastic super sport-like tour master.

You know... it's funny how nice that can looks. The stock can was only an inch or two longer, but it was about 4 pounds heavier. I like the look of the R1 can, but I wish it was a little louder. I don't need a super loud system, but I do like to hear the motor when I'm riding at freeway speed. My old FJ had a Supertrapp on it... it was dialed in to be fairly quiet, but it was still loud enough to be heard.

I've been toying with the idea of taking the old stock can and cutting about 4 inches off of it. I like shorter mufflers... the stock FZ can is super long. I think 4 inches off of it would look good and increase the engine noise to just the right level.

The end caps on the R1 can are riveted in place (as opposed to the stock can whose end caps are welded on)... it would be easier to cut that one down. But then again, I'd have to run a stock can while I was trying to modify the R1 can. And if I screwed up the R1 can in the process... well, that would suck (the R1 can was a freebie from the sales manager where I bought the FiZzer).

The hardbag set up was a freebie from the dealer when we negotiated the bike. I already had the top case from my old FJ and I got them to throw in the rack system for the top case and side cases. I finally got around to getting the side bags. I went with the bottom rung econocases because of the cost. The nice thing was, there was only $9 difference in price between the 35 litre bags and the 45 litre bags... so I went with the big bags. Those things are freakin' huge, too! I could fit a familly of 5 and their 2.4 televisions in those things!

Anyway... I'm rambling on. Thanks for the compliments, guys...
