Need storage advice
Need storage advice
Hey, I got my motorcycle endorsment 2 months ago and am getting ready to buy my first bike. Unfortuantely I'm a college student and just moved back to my parents house. They are against my riding and I am unable to keep a bike at the house. I can't think of any friends nearby who I'd be able to keep the bike at. Do's anybody have any advice on what I could do?

I was in the same boat...
Hey, I was in the same boat, and I found out in my case that it's because I wanted a crotch rocket and was always talking about them. I ended up convincing my mom not only to let me get a bike, but to lend me the money by 1. Using the gas/insurance savings arguments; 2. Agreeing that no passengers would be on it for at least 3-4 months; and 3. Buying a cruiser-style bike, an '01 Suzuki Volusia...
Best of luck!

I've already tryed those arguments, she won't hear it. I never wanted a crotch rocket, they just aren't for me. If I can find a local storage unit for maybe $50 a month I'm going to try that. I don't know, I may end up having to wait till I move out, (6-8 months). Parking is terrible on campus, I don't know if I can wait that long though.

Tell them if you cannot park your bike at their house, you'll happily find an apartment and stay elsewhere.
If thats not an option, you might have to just wait. Considering your position, you need to respect your parents wishes as to what they do or do not want kept in their home.

Park it on the street in front of your parent's house. The street is technically not their property, but the county's. Buy an alarm, a disc lock or cable lock and a good cover.
Talk to one of your neighbors and see if you can work out something to see if you can keep it at their residence for a fee.

While moving out is an option, I would prefer not to be kicked out. My parents hold the ultimate trump card. technicalities won't win this fight for me.sharpmagna wrote:Park it on the street in front of your parent's house. Right now thats exactly what I'm looking for, Just need to find a neighbor that I know well enough to trust with a bike, but doesn't know my parents enough and/or at all, I don't need to find a place to keep it then be told that I can't keep it there anymore because my parents wouldn't lke it.sharpmagna wrote:Talk to one of your neighbors and see if you can work out something to see if you can keep it at their residence for a fee.
