And, you won't be able to get out of your own way, much less out of the way of other traffic with 7 hp. My nighthawk 250 has 16 hp, and I'd pretty much consider that a good minimum for optimal street operation.

street legal - possible. highway legal - probably not. Most Highways have a 250cc minimum - otherwise you're classified with mopeds and small scooters.

In Va some vehicles can't be registered on the road regardless of what you've done to them. And the ones you modify that make the inspection pay a hefty insurance. I would check into that first before trying to add lights or anything... like buying one

i don't intend to take it to freeways.

and the bike would make an excellent pit bike. cheaper than buying a scooter and more fun to ride. so there goes your question about trackdays.

Could "you" make it street legal? Given your previous posts about your mechanical abilities, I'd have to say : probably not. Adding a complete electrical system to a bike that doesn't have one is more complicated than lubing a chain.

Q: Since you live in CA, wouldn't you have to get some sort of emission certificate for street use? Even the small scooters and mopeds that are sold for street use have to have one. If you need it, you'd have to jump through the same (expensive) hoops that a manufacturer would.

not sure if thats true. You just need to be able to maintain the minimum speed which is normally 45. I've seen many street legal 150cc scooters on the highway.

It depends on the state. Each state classes its motor vehicles differently. Here in AZ, any motorcycle or scooter with less than 5 hp is considered a "motor driven cycle" and not allowed on freeways.
