another question about tires...

so on today's canyon ride... BTW, i had saturday 2 times, 1 on sunday, 1 on monday, then today on wednesday.

i can't wait to see how much my gas bill is for this month.

back to topic...

i asked my riding buddies about my tires and the wear indicator. they checked and just like i noticed... im already at the wear indicator on the middle part of the tire. on the sides... i still have a little left.

then i asked them if it's squared... but they said it's not.

anyway... should i continue to use it since it's not squared anyway?

BTW... i have 3,840 miles right now. i was hoping i can push it 5,000 miles but it doesn't look like it.

It's probably a good idea to replace them, as even riders with mad cornering skills such as yourself spend most of their time on the middle of the tire.

That said, you could probably ride it for a few hundred more miles without incident, but it would ultimately be the wiser decision to replace them, imho.

yeah... i guess.

oh well... the front tire hasn't shipped yet but i already got a tracking number from UPS.

once i get the front. i'll do a burnout before i throw my old tires away.

w/ pics of course.

and yeah... i will make sure to grab the front brake the whole time.


anyway, since it's not squared... i bet i can still use it while waiting for my front tire.

So, your front will still have at least 50% of its rubber left and has caused you no problems ie loose moments yet you are going to just throw it away?

some people think so, I think you will be fine. The front should last till the end of the next rear tire, rears usually wear out faster. Replace it then with the same that you have in back. This is my place, or, at least it is now. I wont likely have to replace my rear till next spring cause its got about 1500-2000mi left on it and I've got about 1.5-2months. I guess if you've got the cash to throw around get a full set of the same tire, which is, of course, best, but I dont think you will be dangerous with a different front, just dont ride past its ability, which I doubt you would anyways. if finances next spring say that getting a new front tire works as well, then hell yeah thats gonna happen, some sport touring tires, something nice, or maybe something high milage

it's ok... i got the front for free bec of the promo plus i really don;t like the idea of running different brands of tires.

the front tire is ok... it hasn't let me down unlike the rear which is just killing my confidence right now.

Put both new tires on.

You might be able to sell the old front for $40 or $50 and put the cash in the "track day" bin Next time you need new tires, you can probably keep the same front and get a new rear.. you will still have "matching" tires then.

if you got it for free then yeah, that makes sense, though mounting it will still cost. as far as the waste of tire and rubber left... see if your tire change place sends the old tires somewhere where they will be recycled. There are so many uses for old tires out there, high school track surfaces, surfaces that horses are on in the barn and tracks, earth stabilization matts in the civil eng world, playground surfacing.....
