Just an update on my bike - Working Project...

#1 Unread post by sharpmagna »

Since the last time I posted about my bike, I've added:
*front fender of another Magna (from an '83)
*aux light under the VTX headlight
*Silverstar lightbulb
*Kuryakyn Throttle Boss (for those long trips)
*National Cycle Deflector DX Windscreen
*passenger seat and backrest
*reupholstered rear seat as the stock cover had a rip. Mom sewed the vinyl cover and I stapled it on to the stock seat pan
*Progressive fork springs - virtually eleminated the dive when braking
*shocks off a 2006 VTX 1300 - much firmer feel, lowers the bike about 1/2" and looks much better
*louder horn
*new front tire - old one developed started to dry rot and developed a crack in the sidewall

The windscreen removes in about 30 seconds so it's nice when you just want to feel the wind. Also it is fully height and angle adjustable so you can set it up just the way you like it. My bike has two horns actually, the one you can see in the pics and a louder aftermarket horn on the right hand side in the same location as the other horn. This sucker is 132db and gets some attention when you hit it. I'm contemplating replacing the toher one to the same horn... Not bad looking for a 20 year old bike 8)

Oh here is a picture from when I first got it so you can get an idea of where it's come from:

Some plans for the future:
*Inspection plate (My first bike so I didn't know they'd slap a sticker on the freaking fork... )
*Polish up the wheels (aluminum oxydation)
*Send out the engine covers, front fender and various bits out for chroming
*handle bar riser to bring the handlebar up and back a bit more
*paint lower cowl to match the rest of the bike (unpainted faded black)
*purchase missing bits that have fallen off the bike over the years

(I prefer the bike without the back seat and backrest, but they help out with commuting to work. I can strap my backpack there instead of on my back so it makes the ride more comfy)

Looks great. The highlight alone makes a big difference. I like the new seat better.

That's a smooth job you did with the headlight and windscreen - subtle, but nice 8)

Thanks for the comments. Yeah that headlight "updates" the bike IMO.

Okay, you can officially upgrade your bike from "project bike" to "showstopper"!

Nice work! 8)

Thanks for the compliment. I hide my bike's imperfections by being a horrible photographer
