The mouse and the XS650 Yamaha
Last Spring, I got my classic XS650 Yamaha out of storage, checked it over and decided to ride it about 15 miles down the expressway to the Yamaha shop just to warm it up good. As I was getting on the expressway, a mouse popped up between the speedometer and tachometer and stood there with his face to the wind looking like the hood ornament on a Buick. Well, I'm not afraid of mice, but I wasn't about to grab this little bugger with my bare hands at speed on the expressway, so I bumped my speed up to 70 mph in an effort to dust him off. At 70 mph, he was still holding on for dear life, so I bumped it up to 80 mph, but he was still hanging in there. I put my head down and went into my best racers tuck and took the bike up to 100 mph, the wind caught the little guy and he vanished with the wind...there you go, problem solved. When I got to the Yamaha shop, there were 4 guys milling around in the parking lot eyeballing me as I parked the bike. I prepared myself for the usual questions about the old XS650 Yamaha like...where did you get the old bike...how many miles are on it...what year is it ? The old bike always draws a crowd everywhere I go. Before I could get my helmet off, one guy walks up to me with a big grin on his face and said: " Dude, how did you train that mouse to ride spread eagle on top of your helmet....dude that's awesome !!
