FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Cumberland County Sheriff's Department held a motorcycle ride on Saturday to help out some of the Sandhills' smallest citizens.

The first annual "Shop with the Sheriff" charity ride helped raise money for needy children in Cumberland County during the holiday season.

“We shop with about 100 plus children a year and we try to have enough money so we can provide the needs first and of course some toys and all for them,” said Sheriff Earl “Moose” Butler.

“It's dedicated to the children, but we try to raise as much money as possible in order to meet the needs of as many children as possible."

Sheriff' deputies also chipped in at a local Applebee’s serving as waiters and host, all to raise money for the cause.

The hope is to raise more than $22,000 for Cumberland County children.
