Must admit: curious to see who wins the 1000/600 cc comparos

As far as the middleweights go, the Triumph is the undisputed champion and the Yamaha a respectable second, but the new CBR and ZX-6 are very viable looking competitors. The GSX-R600 doesn't seem to really have a chance though since it lost last year and hasn't really been updated.

Then we have the literbikes. This year we have a new GSX-R and R1. There will be no surprises as to the loser, I imagine, since Honda hasn't touched the losing CBR, and the ZX-10 will possibly fall back a notch.

The real question lies with if (A) the disappointingly restyled R1 was improved enough to climb to the top of the heap and (B) if the new GSX-R was improved enough to maintain its position, insufficiently improved, or worst of all, somehow downgraded in performance.

These are good times to be a motorcyclist. I can't wait till these racebike technologies are integrated into things like the VFR.

Wasn't variable valve timing first in F1 cars?
If so, are you implying that when VVT made its way into luxury cars, they were no longer luxury cars?

the daytona 675 has nothing on my gixxer750.

the gixxer750 K6 should have been in the comparo for the middleweight.




PS. yeah, i know 750 is a dead class already but this also adds to the appeal of the bike to me. only suzuki and ducati still make a 750cc RR bike. although the ducati 749's performance is just on par w/ the 600cc RR bikes of the big 4. so technically... the gixxer750 is alone in its class right now.

This summer there was a test in motorcyclist between the 4 - 600's + the Daytona 675 and the Gixxer 750. 9 different riders at 9 different skill levels with the 6 different bikes, each got a chance to ride every bike for several laps on the track, and again on the street over a couple of days in several different conditions.

While all of the riders seemed to have slightly different preferences, the overall winner was the Daytona 675. Above and beyond your Gixxer750. A rough quote off the top of my head, "it's like they took the best parts of all the best bikes and put it all together."

Gixxer 750 came in third.

Unfortunately the magazine is currently sitting on my desk in Edmonton where I will not be until Dec.

the gixxer 750 won 2006 Motorcycle of the Year. are they diff from the "Motorcyclist" that you are referring to?


but anyway... hp and torques specs on the gixxer750 is considerably higher than the 675. plus the low seat height works well for me too. only thing that the 675 has better IMHO is stock tires, but that can be easily fixed.

everybody has different opnions.

ergos... haven't sit on the 675 but it's seat height is too high for my comfort. the seat height on the gixxer is just right for me... anything higher and i won't be able to flat foot the bike. so just on the seat height alone, the ergos on the gixxer is better for me.

weight... the triumph is 2lbs heavier. i doubt it will matter.

design... i like the gixxer way better as well. the 675 looks too similar to the R1 to me. plus, im not a big fan of undertail exhaust.

performance... hp and torque is considerably higher on the gixxer750.

so like i said... to me, the only thing better on the 675 is that it comes w/ diablo corsa. unlike gixxers that come w/ battlax BT014s. the corsa is a way better tire.
