Triple Triumph for BMW at MCN Awards
Monday, October 30, 2006 - BMW Press Release
BMW Motorrad UK attended last night's annual Motor Cycle News Awards dinner, where the company was presented with the coveted Best Trailie, Best Sports-Tourer and Best Tourer awards.
The awards - now in their 11th year - are the Industry benchmark for outstanding success in all areas of motorcycling. This year's three awards were testimony to the fact that BMW's has successfully made the transition from niche to mainstream manufacturer - a fact that hasn't gone unnoticed by the motorcycle press and many new converts to the brand.
The R 1200 GS Adventure won the Best Trailie award, and the 152 hp four-cylinder K 1200 GT won the Best Sports Tourer award. Last year's winner of the Best Tourer award - the R 1200 RT - scooped the coveted accolade for the second year in succession, proving its dominance in the large-capacity long-distance segment.
BMW Motorrad's General Manager for Motorcycles Adrian Roderick commented: "We've had a fantastic year so far in 2006 with the launch of six new models. To win the Best Trailie award for the new R 1200 GS Adventure is fantastic for us, as we knew that the R 1150 GS Adventure predecessor model was going to be a seriously hard act to follow.
"To win the Best Sports Tourer award with our new K 1200 GT proves that you can have massive power, serious long-distance capability and excellent road-holding and handling in one package. We also knew that the R 1200 RT would be a strong contender for the Best Tourer award as it is one of our best sellers, but to win the award for the second year in a row is the icing on the cake - especially as we nominated it last year instead of our flagship K 1200 LT, which had won this award for the last six years in a row!
"Thanks to our conquest marketing strategies and comprehensive World of BMW customer activity programme, more motorcyclists than ever before are trying our bikes and discovering what owning and riding a BMW really means. To receive more awards than any other manufacturer proves that we are achieving our objectives. With five new models for 2007 currently on show at this year's International Motorcycle and Scooter Show in Birmingham - including new supermoto, enduro and sports machines, you could say BMW is on a roll."
