Motorcycle racing next year in Australia
Friday, November 3, 2006 - SOUTH WESTERN TIMES - thewest.com.au

The new race track at the Collie Motorplex, opened a month ago after a $1.7 million contribution by the State and Federal governments, expects to begin full motorcycle racing in the first half of next year.

Facility leaseholder Motoring South West’s committee chairman John Smith said Collie Motorplex was the only regional race track capable of hosting State level championships and anticipated it would attract a range of race meets.

‘‘Before, we had a limited number of vehicles on the sprint track but we can now offer full, proper-sized racing of any class of vehicle,’’ Mr Smith said.

‘‘It’s been a fantastic exercise — I’ve been chairman for five years and now we operate with a profit.

‘‘It’s all going very well and it’s very much a result of the support we get from the local community through inkind support, donated labour and discounted services.

‘‘We expect to host two or three Combined Historic Motorcycle Club races next year and we are yet to speak to the Motorcycle Racing Club but anticipate to get two or three race meets.

‘‘We also hope to host car open race meets.’’
