Cottonwood motorcycle officer Roger Scarim on his new 2007 police-equipped motorcycle. The bike replaces a 2000 model and has a larger engine and six speeds. Scarim says police work is tough on a motorcycle, but the vehicles are very versatile in dealing with traffic incidents, especially when a highway is bottle necked at rush hour.
Richard Fimbres, director of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, was scheduled to present a $25,000 grant to the Cottonwood City Council at their meeting Tuesday evening.
This grant money will be used to purchase a 2006 Harley Davidson Police Motorcycle Package to replace the current motorcycle which is old and frequently out of service for repairs.
Cottonwood Police say the new police motor cycle will allow the Cottonwood Police Department to continue to effectively participate in a variety of task force activities as well as day-to-day traffic enforcement.
The Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) has provided the Cottonwood Police Department with numerous grant opportunities, providing funding of many thousands of dollars. This funding supported overtime for DUI Task Force Patrols and Red Light Violation Enforcement, as well as the purchase of child and infant car safety seats.
