2007 Yamaha V Star 1300

#1 Unread post by MotoF150 »

My local Yamaha dealer had the new 2007 V star 1300 on display, I didn't like it, too big, too long, too heavy, belt drive and the price was too high at $12K, I could buy a new 07 Honda VTX 1300 for $7999 and the VTX 1800 for $8999 and The Suzuki M109 for $8999. Why should I spend so much more money for the V Star 1300? I need a new bike and im having a tough time making up my mind and I keep going back and wanting the Suzuki V Strom 1000 but I hate Suzuki and the insurance costs on the V Strom are thru the roof, What Honda or Yamaha can I buy thats light, fast and low insurance rates thats under $8000?

Honda Cub.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I looked at a couple this weekend, myself, while shopping with the wife. I was a little "let down" that I didn't care for the 1300, either. I think my main concerns were, the lack of bobbed fenders, and the handlebars didn't feel quite right. I know, you can get different bars to put on it, but other bikes have felt so much better.
Personally, if I had the money, I'd be on an M109R, but seeing as you don't care too much for Suzuki, I'd go for the Honda 1800 VTX. There are so many different "models" to choose from, I'm sure you can find one you like.
Enjoy and good luck!

Is it just me, or does that seem to be a trend with yamaha? Their bikes are usually a bit more expensive when compared to bikes in the same class from the other big 3 japanese manufacturers.

I have to agree with you a bit there.
Granted...some of the fit and finish they have, though, is amazing. I'm not one for "giant" cruisers, but that Roadliner and Stratoliner are amazing. They DEFINITELY "stand-out" and have their own look to them. I liked how they tried to incorporate some of that into the 1300, but there was just something that didn't feel right when I sat on it.
Give me an M109R, please...or, actually...a Vegas Jackpot. THAT puppy felt GREAT when I was on it!

What I told the Yamaha Dealer is $12K was too much money to pay for any japanese bike, I mean If I was spending $12K I would buy a real bike like a BMW or a Victory. After I told him that he never offered me a test ride. Not offereing me a test ride is the same thing as telling me "Get the @^^$# !! out of my dealership!"

I'm amazed that after you told him you weren't buying that bike he didn't fall to his knees and beg you, nay, plead with the offer of dealer invoice minus 50% and his first born child to please, oh please, ride this motorcycle you have said you'd never buy.

Considering that test rides are pretty rare birds anyhow, and the attitude that probably went along with your statement (Victory? Really? Why not just get the Harley?) I'm surprised that, next to the front door, there's not a picture of you with a circle and a line through it.
