January 8, 2007 - Justice Brothers, Inc. Justice Brothers, Inc Press Release - Total Motorcycle - www.totalmotorcycle.com
DUARTE, Calif., January 8, 2007 – Mickey Thompson, Jeff Ward, Don Prudhomme, Ivan Stewart, and Chris Pook have been nominated for the 8th Annual Justice Brothers-Shav Glick Award. Previously given out by Eagle One for the last seven years, Justice Brothers, Inc. is honored to take over this award from Eagle One as they direct their attention toward other avenues.
Mickey Thompson, who was tragically killed in 1988, was the first American to break the 400-mph barrier on the Bonneville Salt Flats. He was the first to build a stock block rear engine car for the Indianapolis 500. Jeff Ward, inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999, won seven AMA National Championships. He is one of the most versatile riders in the history of the sport winning national titles in 125cc, 250cc, and 500cc national motorcross as well as supercross.
Don Prudhomme was the first driver to win four consecutive NHRA series titles and seven U.S. Nationals. Overall he won 389 of 589 rounds of competition in NHRA. Ivan Stewart won four SCORE championships, seventeen Baja 500’s, and three Baja 1000’s. Chris Pook is the founder of the Long Beach Grand Prix. He is credited as the creator of modern road racing on actual city street courses in the United States of America.
The motor racing legend winner will be picked by a judging panel that includes national and California motorsports writers.
Previous winners of the prestigious Shav Glick Award are Carroll Shelby, Phil Hill, Dan Gurney, Wally Parks and Parnelli Jones among others. Named in honor of Shav Glick, the long-time motorsports writer for the Los Angeles Times and member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame, the award will be given out during the pre-race ceremonies at the NASCAR Auto Club 500, February 25, at California Speedway.
Eagle One no longer uses motorsports to market their products, opting to concentrate on enthusiasts and DIYers. "Eagle One is proud to have honored California racers in the name of another great Golden State racing contributor Shav Glick," said Valvoline Director of Motorsports and Marketing Bryan Emrich. "We're pleased to have Justice Brothers continue this tradition."
