When is a crash a crash?

Pretty simply I would think, however my bestfriend and I have a difference of opinion. He has 2 seperate crashes that he claims weren't really crashes. He thinks that to be a full legit crash both the bike and the rider must go down and make contact with the pavement.
Crash one....he is clipping along at a meager 60mph when a deer comes charging hard out of the brush and head first into his front wheel. Both him and bike go flying...he lands, tucks and rolls and his bike lands on the deer. Not a freaking scratch on the bike. It is literally perfect....Deer is eFed up but the bike survived (still running even)...he grabs the bike stands it up, jumps on and off he goes.......he feels because the bike never hit the ground no crash here.
Crash two...During a Formula Pacific race with the AFM at Sears Point he is in the lead on what I believe to be lap 2 and at 3A he highsides....he and the bike again go flying he hits first and the bike lands on him...they both slide down towards 4, he kicks the bike off around 5 mph. No damage to bike other than a minor scrub on the handlebar...looks like it scrubed a wall at 5-7mph. Again he claims no crash, however he did get a hairline fracture of his femur in this so called non-crash...
So would you consider either a crash...He doesn't on either...I disagree and say yea those are both crashes simply due to coming off the bike on both occasions.
PS---on crash two...he limped back to the pits during the red flag borrowed a 600cc bike with 105hp (going from the 180hp 1000cc) and made it to the start line to finish the race and keep himself in points contention, continued to finish the year with the #3 plate..read all about it and see the pictures of the SO CALLED not crash here --->
