I recently purchased a 87 yamaha fz600. I am a new rider. I took the msf last year for the first time plan to take it in next couple of months. Any tips or advice either on bike or about motorcycle riding would be appreciated.

Ummm, don't start on that bike, there's a good chance you'll get hurt springs to mind.
Other then that, try REALLY hard not to push yourself, just sort of let the skills come to you, rather then forcing your way to the skills. And don't forget that you have a LOT of bike there, and you really don't need to use all of it. Take it easy, have fun, look through the corners, avoid braking in a turn. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
