I mentioned this in my blog but here is the full writeup on the install in case anyone is interested in it. This will work on most bikes.

Position the unit where you'd like (protected from the wind and rain is good so the unit does not get innundated). As you can see, I did not do this but I may relocate or fab a nice little protective backing plate soon.

Remove headlight. Find the White 9P connector (dash light display harness) and pull back protective rubber sleeve. Run Shift-I Ignition and Ground wires through the back of the headlight (prewrap wires before routing). Connect the Ground wire to the Green. Connect the Ignition wire to the Brown. Before closing up, hook up battery and turn key on to confirm Shift-I has power. When satisfied, disconnect battery again. Rewrap harness with tape. Install headlight.

Connect the Tacho input as far away from the coil as possible to prevent interference in the signal. This means connecting at the Spark Unit located under the seat, behind the battery. Before you can connect, you must connect an extra length of wire to the Shift-I Tacho wire so that it will reach the Spark Unit (tube connector used). Run the length of wire on the inside of the frame. Move handlebars lock to lock to be certain the wire has enough slack. Secure wire with wire tape or zip ties. Be sure to use tape or a shrink wrap sleeve over wire to protect. Tape over tube connection (not shown here).

Pull spark unit from cradle by releasing the rubber strap. Remove tape and untwist the harness enough to access either the Yellow/Blue wire or the Blue/Yellow wire. Both are coil inputs.

Rewrap harness with tape and secure in place with rubber strap. Reconnect battery and reinstall seat. You may now program Shift-I to your preferences. For this VTR250 I found that I had to set the calibration to 0.5 as the first light did not come on until late. If you are having difficulty with the connections using a tap connector, try solder instead.
