hey guys.. what do you think about to 2001 yamaha R6.. i had an option to buy one for $3,400 .. it had 2200 miles on it.. do u think thats a good deal..? it has an high mount exhuast. carbonfiber clutch and front break levers. the guy took all the stickers off .. the tank still has the stickers.. no body dammage.. and as of right now he said that it was sitting for a year with out riding it.. he just started it ever few days.. so now it runs a lil rough.. the guy said it needs new spark plugs and might need new spark plug wires too.. do u think it might need the carbrator cleaned.. if the gas was sitting for a bit it could need a fuel cleaner.. so do u think its a good deal to get the bike and just go have it tuned up.. has there been any problems with this year bike.. ? and major issues.. ? anything i should look for... please let me know if you can..

Not being a R-6 owner, I never followed longterm service and failure rates on them, but I've also never heard of any recalls or known serious problems with them. Most Japanese bikes...most bikes period...made this millenuim are pretty well engineered.
If any damaged bodywork has been replaced, that would rectify most crash damage. But check for frame and fork damage. Look around the headtube/frame junction for stress marks of any kind..discoloration of the aluminum, cracked or peeling paint if it is painted, anything unussual. eyeball the front wheel to see if it lines up with the rear tire. When riding the bike, it should not pull to one side or wander too much. It should track straight even if you take your hands off the bars. But don't take your hands off the bars. It should also track straight under braking, so check that.
Look the whole bike over for scratches running from front to back. Engine covers, exhaust systems, frame spars are thangs that often touch ground. Look at the parts of the bike that stick out the farthest.
You can do a compression check on the engine, but mostly just listen for nioses that sound like they don't belong. It should run very good, if not the carbs are probably gummed up and need cleaning.

No Witnesses....

yea i see what your saying..
honestly i dont think he is tryin to make a quick buck.. he has two bikes.. he started off wiht the r6 and got a GsxR 1000.. so he moved up.. he said his friend was going to buy it but then he didnt have the money.. hes just been holding on to it for a while.. and he seems like he is just trying to get rid of it.. i just hope when i go back and have my boy look at it, that nothing is wrong with the bike.. if alls it needs is a tune up thats fine.. that can be done .. so i hope everyting goes well and i get the ok to get it..
If you guys have anyting else i should know please let me know.. thankyou for all your replys
