Getting bored with the nighthawk... Any suggestions?

#1 Unread post by Bored »

Hey everyone, I have been riding this Nighthawk alot lately, I went from hating it to liking it alot. The suspension still bites but I just remember that it isn't a sportbike and it is bad in the twisties, I mean it is a 1992 NightHawk! It is a comfortable bike that is surprisingly powerfull.

I am however bored with it, I mean it is all black, as is every one on the road and they didn't change much over the years.

I decided to customize it. I started with drag bars... easily installed but sadly they hit the tank and therefore were useless. I did however change out the grips.
I also added the spinning led bulbs in the back.
I did a little metal work on the exhaust, I took some perforated sheet metal with those "TOXIC" symbols and fitted it in the end of the megaphone, it looks pretty good and is different, I also used the same metal inside the turn signal lenses, now when they blink, you see the symbols!

I can't find any cool add ons for this bike which is odd to me, considering how long they made this style! I would like some ideas on replacing the rear blinkers with some flush mounts and cutting the rear fender below the key slot and relocating the license plate to the rear axle.
I also thought of removing the taillight lens and creating a filler plate to blank it off and then put a different lens on it, maybe 2 round ones?

I know it may sound like a waste but part of the fun of owning it is customizing it right?
I usually do things like this till I run out of ideas then sell the bike!
I usually miss the bike and regret selling it soon after!
Another thing I can't find is a cowl for under the motor, or is it a lower fairing or an air scoop?
I had one on my SV650 but the dealer put it on. If anyone has any ideas on where I can find it, let me know!
Also if anyone can tell me if there is a way to remove the plugs found in the end of the handlebars? I wanted to put on these bar sliders that look good with the new grips. I paid for them and threw out the package and now I have no use for them! All the other bikes I have had or have came with them!
I also have all the paint now! I am far from ready to start spraying though, I am doing the whole bike in a heavy silver flake and I am pretty sure I am going to do 2 racing stripes from front to back in electric blue pearl, kind of like ghost flames, but stripes instead. However ghost flames have crossed my mind but flames don't come easy to me! I think the flames would really highlight the curves of the tank though!

Well I am going to stop rambling now and patiently await the onslaught of ideas from everyone! pictures or links would be greatly appreciated and if I use your idea I will give you full credit and keep everyone posted with pictures along the way! Thanks again everyone![/b]

No, I have other bikes to ride, I am bored with it but I won't sell it or give it away, So yes I just want to "sexy/mean" it up some! I am tired of it's cookie cutter style... Correct me if I am wrong, and believe me, I am not always right but, weren't all 92's black? and little changed over the next few years aside from maybe a yellow or blue and a blacked out motor later on? So again, I guess I am super bored with it! I may consider trades on it, as thats how I got it to begin with! But then again I do want to do a little something to it...

It would take a lot of work, but make a cafe racer out of it.
