I went for a ride with my friend who finally got his ride running (had a problem with a bad battery, and then bad gas). I told him to lead the way cuz it was his town and he knew the area. Since it was his first time out this season we took it easy on some beautiful scenic back roads for about an hour. Well, he was feeling more comfortable and it was time to head back so we joined up with a busy route heading back. We were entering an intersection that we had the right of way with a blinking yellow. Well, a car to our right who was waiting to take a left didn't see my friend cuz he was only looking to his right looking for an opening accelerated forward into opening completely running into my friend. THankfully when he hit my friend (his left side bumper with my friends wheel, my friend tried to turn left to avoid) my friend was vaulted over his handle bars and over the cars hood and landed beside cars passenger side. Well the driver was still hitting the gas still looking to his right that he hesitated to break and kept running into bike and ran over front wheel. If my friend wasn't thrown he would have been pinned by bike and possible could have lost his limb, if not his life. As it is, he broke his ankle, and few ribs and twisted his thumb. I couldn't believe it. I saw it all happening in front of me. KNEW it was going to happen cuz I saw the car creeping out and not even looking forward or at least left. And since my friend was crossing and thought all was clear he was looking forward through intersection. He wears a full face helmet and he said he never saw car till it was right in front of him and he turned quick to left to try to avoid hitting it and instead of hitting it by the front left quarter panel he swerved to the front of it

Whole thing sucks. THANK GOD HE IS ALRIGHT for the most part. Bike is totaled. Can't believe his first ride out this happens. Now he is going to lose work pay and he was on vaction next week for 2 weeks and was going away. I hope everything works out with him. I see how quickly things can go wrong. I'm still not afraid to ride. I don't think he is either. His wife was berating him

at the hospital "see how dangerous bike riding is. Guess you won't be riding anymore" He just smiled, and said "not that bike" looked over at me and winked. At least he still has his humor intact.
