No Garage
No Garage
I'm looking at getting a 250 as my first bike and since I'm a college student, I live in an apartment and don't have a garage or an overhang I could keep the bike in. Even though it's just a 250 and I'll be upgrading eventually, I want to keep it in the best shape possible and not hurt it too much from the weather and everything else. Other than getting a cover to put on it, is there anything else I could do to protect it?

hes in tennessee they dont use salt thereSev wrote:Wax it a lot, hose off any salt... basically try to keep it covered and clean and dry.

The only thing I would worry about is theft. Not sure which part you are in but I know theft is a big deal in a few areas down there (I learned from my uncles how to take the tires off a car in less than 30 seconds and then run course I dont do it myself just i learned how to lol). There are quite a few threads on here about anti theft devices that you could try.

Yeah we get a good snowing once every couple years so salt isn't a huge problem down here. Theft is actually what my dad is worried about and it's making him hesitant to let me get one. It doesn't help that I was talking to a cop last year and he said we are about 20 minutes from the biggest chop shop in Tennessee...he told me this while we were making the police report on my friends truck being stolenofblong wrote: The only thing I would worry about is theft. actually a 250 is more likely to be stolen than a gsx-r. at least the last insurance report I read stated so. However im assuming your apartment isnt on ground floor? If it was you could always just drive it into the living room lol. Make sure to have insurance on it and make sure that it includes full replacement due to theft (if it isnt part of the insurance agreement they will most likely just pay the depreciated value which really isnt that much less than new lol). Kinda funny the first thing I thought of when I saw you were from tennessee was theft lol. Of course I grew up around it being with my uncles all the time.ramathorn wrote:Yeah we get a good snowing once every couple years so salt isn't a huge problem down here. The only thing that helps me feel better is that there have been a couple motorcycles parked outside my apartment all year and nobody has messed with them so let's hope if they don't want a Ninja 650 or a GSX-R 600, that they'll pass up whatever 250 I end up with

I have never saw these but they look pretty good for a cover and they do sell some security items for them as well.

Now that is cool. I keep my ride in our shed next to our lawn mower and it's a pain in the butt. This would be perfect.Justice75 wrote:I have never saw these but they look pretty good for a cover and they do sell some security items for them as well.
