How much is too much?
I am about to buy my 1st bike. I passed my class and I am either going to get a CBR 600 or GXR 600. Anyway, i was wondering which accessories to get and how much is too much. I was told that I needed to get a fender elimination kit. I want to get something that holds my helmet when i am in the store or at work. I figure that i have to get a muffler. I am impressed with the light modulators. I see my myself getting carried away. What items or accessories do you think are necessary and which do you think are over the top?

Most people here will try to convince you not to get a race bike as a first bike, as its extremely responsive nature will turn your subtle mistakes into accidents.
A good first bike is one that will forgive the input mistakes you inevitably make as you learn.
Even a Ninja 250 will out-accelerate most cars on the road, cruise at 70 mph, and top 100 mph. Don't believe what your big-displacement buddies tell you about the smaller bikes.

First you need to decide what your goals are. I'd have to say a fender eliminator kit is never a necessity unless you're goal is to be a street racer or something. Honda would not have made it that way if it didn’t have a use.
So I guess, if your goal is to look cool, go for the fender kit. Otherwise I’d take flyinriders advice, especially if you've already made up your mind that a 600cc sport bike will be your first.

When you have to use 90% or more of your ability, to ride in the way the bike was built to be ridden.
That is different for most riders unless your new. That's when bike weight and horsepower come into play. i.e. you don't see touring bikes racing but due to the weight, they can be impossible for a new rider and the same can be said for a bike designed to run fast in the hands on someone not experienced in that kind of horsepower to bike weight ratio on two wheels.
In my opinion, if safety is not your #1 concern, then your asking the wrong people in general.

Protective gear for the bike too. (crash bars, frame savers/sliders, handle bar bumpers,hyper lites,headlight modulator,reflective tape,alarm) Some aren't correct/available for all bikes.
